	KRAS (THE CLASSICAL KARST) AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF KARST SCIENCE KRAS (KLASIČNI KRAS) IN RAZVOJ ZNANOSTI O KRASU ANDREJ KRANJC1   Izvleček UDK 551.44 Andrej Kranjc: Kras (klasični Kras) in razvoj znanosti o krasu Avtor na kratko predstavi pokrajino Kras, odkoder izvira termin kras, pojasni izvor in pomen imena ter vzroke, ki so privedli do tega, da je ravno ta pokrajina dala ime splošnemu pojavu. Podrobneje navaja avtorje, ki so ime Kras (Karst) razširili na vse pokrajine na apnencih (sredi 19. stoletja) in avtorje oziroma dela, ki so konec 19. in v začetku 20. stoletja utemeljili vedo krasoslovje. Ključne besede: krasoslovje, zgodovina krasoslovja, termin kras, Slovenija, Kras.   Abstract UDC 551.44 Andrej Kranjc: Kras (The Classical Karst) and the development of karst science The author presents the main characteristics of the country Kras, from where the term karst is derived, the origin and the meaning of the name itself and the reasons why just this country is the "locus typicus" of the term. In more detail he speaks about the authors who spread the word karst for limestone countries in general (in the middle of the 19th century) and also the authors who founded the karstology as science at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
