1. Introduction
For centuries, information has been archived and accessed only throught a single location, the library as a "server". The Internet and the World Wide Web (i. e. hyperspace) with its global menu of information offer access and instantaneous delivery of information at working/home environment, withought waiting in line, or quering in a suitable library language. Hyperspace contains an immeasurable quantity of heterogeneous information sources. Unlike most print sources (books, periodicals) that go through a "filtering" process (editors, librarians), the contents of hyperspace is mostly unfiltered. The questions that face any information seeker are: How can I find what I need? Are the sources that exist reliable and useful? Are they even about my topic? What about the quality of these sources? And so on. The solution of these and similar questions dictates construction of a structured tool for systematization and giving access to selected sources. Hyperspace is distributed media. We may quickly get lost. Getting lost means that we lose track of "information location" (i. e. an interesting hyperlink) relative to our starting point. Hyperspace is dynamic media, with exponential growth rates and dynamic changes of existing sources. In view of this, knowledge structuring, indexing and cataloguing of these sources (i. e. hypersources) is not easy task at all. [Contents] 2. Purpose The main purpose of pioneering Slovenian project Catalogue OKO (The EYE): construction and development of hierarchic structured hyper-catalogue offering an effective access and discovery of selectively selected hypersources in the hyperspace environment. To achieve its goals and to meet the user information needs, particular emphasis is being given to the following elements:
[Contents] The catalogued hypersources are intended for general and specific user profiles. Catalogue OKO "serves": academic, business, cultural, educational, library, practical, professional, research and development and noncommercial user profiles; adults, youth and students, as well novice and more experienced user of World Wide Web.

Language Bilingual (Slovene and English language) version is available: title page (index), table of contents (toc), UDC classification system - UDC subject groups and subgroups, alphabetical sequence of subject areas, Catalogue OKO Copyright protection; records: source typology, source description (newly added sources), keywords, and copyright. Bilingual UDC system and alphabetical sequence of subject areas offer bilingual access to the collection and to the same hypersources. [Contents]
Catalogue OKO contains selectively compiled hypersources with the main emphasis on the contents and satisfaction of user information needs. In order to ensure the highest level of quality and comprehensiveness of collections, I make efforts towards content quality, relevance to the subject area and user profile, uniqueness, realibility of access, usefulness/usability and up-to-date of catalogued sources, as well user support (see under User documentation).
Selection criteria are defined in documents accessible under the hyperlinks: [Traditional criteria] and [New criteria]. (For the present in Slovenian.)
Other criteria:
Geographic coverage: Slovenia and global space (there is no geographic limitation). Language: Slovene, English, other available languages, multilingual sources. Accessibility - charging policy: free of charge sources are preferable. [Contents] 6. Structure Catalogue OKO is linked collection of hierarchic structured
information sources (i. e. hypersources). The sources are arran The hierarchic structure of Catalogue OKO, someway like a book with chapters, sections, subsections and an index, is starting point which directs users, helps keeping track of the information location in exploring new geographic areas of hyperspace and successful return to the starting point.
Picture 2: The project processes of Catalogue OKO [Contents] The catalogued hypersources are classified by Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), an international library classification standard. Hypersources are arranged into the following UDC main groups:
The main groups are branching out to more specific subgroups. You do not need to learn and understand the UDC classification system to reach the interesting subject within Catalogue OKO. However, it would be useful to familiarize yourself with UDC system. (For the present in Slovenian.) [Contents] The hierarchic arrangement of hypersources in Catalogue OKO supports an effective subject browsing at any specific level (be it broad or narrow) and searching (broadening and narrowing) across the catalogue. Hypertext interactive abilities between classification groups (subjects/topics) and their meaning: one link leeds to other, deeper and deeper, information is more and more rich. [Help] (Help: For the present in Slovenian.)
Browsing: (1) Sequence of UDC numbers. [Help] (Help: For the present in Slovanian.) (2) Alphabetical sequence of subject areas. [Help] Searching: simple and complex searching. [Help] The search strategy can be limited to the specific parts of the collection (filtering). More complex search strategy allows high precision searching. [Contents] Management and maintenance of Catalogue OKO follow the selected methodology of the project life cycle.
Picture 3: The project life cycle Evaluation of the project fundamental building blocks is an integral part of each project phase. The activities of processes of the project phases are interwaved, superstructured and directed into the integrity of the present and future development of Catalogue OKO. The activities of complex and dynamic processes are continuously running and are manual supported. Catalogue OKO was published in the year 2000 and has been thoroughly improved four times since than. The contents quality of Catalogue OKO is maintained on regular basis. All UDC main groups and considerable part of subgroups of UDC subject hierarchy are covered. The new UDC numbers are periodically added into UDC hierarchic structure. Updating and superstructuring are periodic activities. [Contents] 10. What's New? The new sources recently added into Catalogue OKO are accessible under the hyperlink: [Catalogue OKO: Whta's New?] [Contents] 11. Final word This is the first research and development project of this kind (the pioneer) in Slovenia that pave the new ways to Slovenia and global space. Besides, what is unique about Catalogue OKO? The Catalogue grows out of author's many years experience in special informatics, special information systems, special library fields of work, networking, usability research of hyperspace (i. e. WWW), etc., as well the long usage of classfication systems: UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) and ICS (International Classification for Standards). Besides, the author's professional and research-development work include some published books. More about the author (for the present in Slovenian): [Professional references] In view of this experience, it is my firm belief that the investment of significant level of knowledge, creativity, dynamics, time and money into the project Catalogue OKO is worthwhile. I hope that you find Catalogue OKO useful and productive.
Computers, Internet and hyperspace (WWW) build the present generation of distributed education and lifelong learning. This breaks the form of traditional classroom. With the growing number of educational sources, Catalogue OKO will play an important distribution part of learning material wherever, whenever and practical to any seeker.
