Dear colleagues,

Due to the worsening epidemiological situation we will prepare the symposium Poetovio and his ager in two parts. The first part will take place on 18 November 2020 from 9.00 to 14.00 (with a break), as an online video conference (Zoom). Each participant will present his or her topic very briefly (5 to 10 minutes). The event will be filmed. You will receive the program on time.
Please send us your Power Point or PDF presentations by 13 November 2020 at the latest.

The second part of the symposium will be held live in 2021 with more detailed presentations. The date will be fixed later. The presentations will be published after the symposium.

You will receive the program and detailed instructions for the first part in the following days.

The conference is dedicated to the 1950th anniversary of the first mention of the Roman settlement of Poetovio. The aim is to present new archaeological findings in the area of the colony and in its administrative territory. The conference will focus on in various aspects of the town's development, from field research to in-depth analyses of archaeological finds and written sources. It is necessary to understand how various issues have affected the territory of the town, such as borders, road networks, small settlements and villae, economy, indigenous populations etc, what were the traditions from prehistory as well as the changes after the collapse of the Roman Empire.

The conference is accompanied by the exhibition At the heart of Poetovio, Ptuj in the time of the Roman Empire that is set up at Ptuj Castle.

The aim of the conference is to make advances in the knowledge of the Roman period in the Poetovio's territory, to accelerate future research, facilitate the protection of cultural heritage and enable better presentation of archaeological heritage to the public.

Papers are limited to 15 minutes.

Field research and preliminary analyses of the artefacts can be also presented as a poster, with five-minute presentations.

The official languages of the congress are Slovenian, Croatian, English and German.

Publication

Papers for publication should be submitted by April 2021. More detailed instructions will be published after the symposium.
